Hello there,

I'm not certain if I should be posting in German or not (as I'd have to use Google Translate since my German is quite poor), but I thought to post up here as it seems like the most appropriate place.

My names Chris and I'm a UK LARPer, I went to the Drachenfest this year for the first time and whilst I've seen pictures of the Orcs on the internet, nothing quite prepared me for both the quality of costumes and the high standard of your play.

Being tall and skinny I've never really managed to fit into the orc mould (as I really like LOTR) but from looking at your costumes and seeing the quick, scout orcs to be a possibility I spoke to some of your members OT and they said to just post up here to get some hints and tips on building an orc costume for the new UK system called Empire. This also includes getting into the orc mindset and trying to pick up elements of the Black Speech as well. 

I'm completely rubbish when it comes to making kit usually, but this is something I really want to do and I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction as to where/how to get started in building an orc costume.

Again I apologise if I come across as a little uninformed, but I'm having to translate everything on these forums via Google Translate.

First let me welcome you to the OL-Forum. It’s nice to have you here and thanks for your kind words. Always good to be appreciated. 

It is a good thing, that you didn’t start using Google-translator to post stuff in German. The results are generally terrifyingly bad. 

There are plenty of pretty good visual examples of how to create an orc-oztfit posted by the community, including quite a few pictures to get you inspired. (http://www.orkheerlager.orklager.info/ )

As you might have already realised, there are more than one type of Uruks. With a multitude of factions, clans and groups, it might get a wee bit confusing when you’ll work through the stuff.
To simplify things: Are you more interested in Uruks with a clan background or is the Lord of the rings stuff your thing? Best for you to get some inspiration from the pictures, get an idea which direction you want to go with your orc-concept and then ask detailed questions. To bring up all information at once might be a bit of a herculean task.

I've seen the German to English translations, so I thought I best give that a miss.

Currently my thoughts are to play something with a Lord of the Rings angle, I'm a big Tolkien fan and really like the way orcs come across in his writing, so I feel I can get a lot out of portraying that sort of concept. Although I have to admit I don't know that much about uruks with a clan background.

I'm actually from the north, near a place called Leeds if you've heard of it?

There are Orcclans which have Warhammer as their background, but most clans have their own story as a background. But most of the clans have in common that they`re more on the wild side. I'd be inclined to agree Maguzg, it's in Yorkshire which some of the locals like to believe is a sovereign state in its own right.

Right, got you on the Clan front. Given that the background for the game system is that PC orcs are apart of the Empire, they're supposed to be less overtly "native" as those who are played by NPC's. So I think going for the more disciplined angle would work alot better. Thanks for that.
