For Barbarians building around Weapon Mastery, The Third Blade is more than one of many D4 items to stash away. It changes the rhythm of the class. Weapon Mastery Skills count as Core Skills while the sword is equipped, their cooldowns disappear, and they spend Fury instead. Their damage also rises to 140-160 percent of the usual value. That can open up a much more aggressive rotation, but the weapon sits in Astaroth's higher-tier reward pool, so Torment 1 or above is the place to start.
Build Ashes While You Run Astaroth
The most dependable path is the Escalating Nightmare route because it gives you two shots at progress: a direct weapon drop and materials for a later transmutation. Start with an Escalation Sigil from a Horadric Strongroom, or combine five ordinary dungeon keys in the Horadric Cube. The activity has three floors, and each one gets less forgiving. At the end, you face Exalted Astaroth alongside the Amalgam of Rage. It's a messy fight, especially when the arena fills up, so don't rush the last stretch. Astaroth can drop Ash of the Charred Duke. Save every piece. Once you've got five Ashes, use the Amalgamation recipe in the Cube for a random Unique from Astaroth's pool. That means a rough run still moves your hunt forward.
Use Belial When Time Is Tight
If repeating three dungeon floors isn't your thing, Belial offers a cleaner route. His Exalted Lair, the Palace of the Deceiver, is in Amber Sands in northern Kehjistan, west of Tarsarak. After the fight, spend Superior Lair Keys, also called Betrayer's Husks, at his reward chest and select Astaroth's reward pool. You're not guaranteed the sword, but you're aiming at the right set of Uniques without another Astaroth encounter. Death Toll Chambers are a solid source of these keys. Regular Lair Bosses can help too, since their Belial ambush may leave one behind.
Keep Each Run Purposeful
A simple routine works best: run Escalating Nightmares for direct drops and Ashes, then spend spare keys on Belial when you want faster pulls from Astaroth's pool. Don't burn your Cube materials the moment you get them if you're close to five Ashes; wait, then make that transmutation count. It also helps to check your Fury setup before each run, since The Third Blade asks for a different play style once it lands. Players comparing D4 items for sale with their current gear should focus on whether their build can support frequent Fury spending, not just the sword's damage range.
