Krith'Rup - My new GuM orc
Hi All,
I am happy to share with you all the documentation of making my new orc-armor
I tried to base the look of it on the armors shown in The Return of the King movie, with elements of standard Orklager GuM-style features.
If you have some questions / comments, feel free to add them.
Regards,
Gal / Krith'Rup / Slarn
Leather Tunic:
This one comes over a black-cloth tunic (you can see the black sleeves below):
Leather armor, to serve as the basis for the metal plates that will go over them:
Two short, riveted mail sleeves. to cover the rib area, at the sides of the leather armor (I used this technique also with Slarn's armor).
Various metal junk that I have collected in the trash area, after some office was renovated near where I live.
I coated each metal piece with cheap oil, and then burnt it on open fire, to make the metal look black.
Cutting each metal plate into the desired shape:
Bending it to give it more shape:
And again:
Then, I placed the metal plates on the leather armor, but it looked too straight:
So, I took it off and hammered it on the stone pavement of the street, to bend it and give it a more organic shape, and make it look more injured:
Then, I mounted it again on the leather armor:
Since the leather armor looked too shiny, I decided to coat it with a layer of thin, old-looking leather:
Making the greaves / leg armor:
Making the pauldrons and the side-plates - this time I first cut the metal, shaped it, and only then burnt it with oil.
(I realized that working on an already blackened metal causes the burnt markings to come off):
Burning it:
Ready!
I made bracers with an integral gloves:
Making the Tuzanthar harness:
Ready!
Mask by Nona of Skutog'Mor:
Finally, wearing the finished costume for the first time today, to try it on (although I don't have the mask yet).
Photos by my wife, and our little girl also joined
I apologize for the inverted photos; I don't know why do they appear inverted here (they look good on my computer... ) :
See you at Uruks VS. Britons
P. S.
You can also view all the photos on this link (they are not inverted there):

Hi Slarn,
I find it really good. I hope to see you with these things on EE than, too.
And I like the pics with your little daughter... the little pink girl with the black armored daddy.
Greetings to you and your family

Your new armor Looks great. (For meine as a non HDR/LOR orc Player.)
You are realy good in all, what you are doing (Mask, clothes and Armor).

Re: Krith'Rup - My new GuM orc
Thanks, Gortak, but like I wrote in the post - the mask is made by Nona / Ushkum, from Skutog'Mor.
I only made the armor, but wanted to show you the mask too, so you may get a general idea of how it would all look together

Re: Krith'Rup - My new GuM orc
I guess that Slarn may come back from time to time, although I don't know when and for how long.
Anyhow, lately I feel more connected to the Lord of the Rings' lore, so I built a character that fits that lore.
Also, I got a bit tired of being and playing the comic-relief type of "Lone Wolf" like Slarn is, and I want to play a character, that looks like the rest of the other orcs, and acts like a real soldier

It looks terrific Gal, super impressive and great work!
i think that your leather tunic could use a tad more love. With a little more wear and tear it wil look fantastic!
all in all i think that you are going to fit right in the GUM line!
What kind of weaponry will you be using? - and btw. iam looking forward to seeing you fight with something other than that old sack of yours!

Re: Krith'Rup - My new GuM orc
Thanks, Asbjorn - I will definitely give the leather tunic some more love, to make it look more dirty and rugged.
As a weaponry, I will mostly use a flail and a shield that Blozi made me, so from now on I'm a typical GuM soldier, like the rest
Hi Axel - Most of the metal plates are about 1.5 mm thick.
The entire costume weighs a bit less than 21 Kg., but the overall weight is disbursed rather good on the entire body.

Re: Krith'Rup - My new GuM orc
Aloha Slarn.
Great work with your new armour/gear.
It really looks good. Can‘t imagine how much time you needed to build this gear. Looking forward to see you and play with your new character.
Are you joining the Zabis Udu and may i ask which race your character is?
In my opinion there are only minor issues with your gear.
As Urok already mentioned, the shoecover needs a little bit more shape and some fixture to the shoes.
Also as Godwin mentioned, there could be some more dirt/used look at the leather tunic. Also the jagged lower shape of the tunic looks a little bit too intended. If that shape was intended - well then disregard my note about it.
What i would defenitely fix are the upper parts of your greaves. They look very spiky and not very safe for any possible infight.
Especially, because they are also covered by your leather tunic and so the potential threat isn‘t even visible. I would round the upper edges a little bit.
That‘s it. Overall a very nice work you have done.
Greetz
